This vacation to Australia was tailored for a family who's father had work commitments in Melbourne, but the family also wanted to spend some time together exploring some highlights of Australia.

The vacation begins in vibrant Sydney. Sydney is Australia's oldest city, the economic powerhouse of the nation and the country's capital in everything but name. It's blessed with sun-drenched natural attractions, dizzy skyscrapers, delicious and daring restaurants, superb shopping and friendly folk. Then on to Brisbane; a city which was once described a big country town has now emerged as one of the country's most progressive centres. Brisbane has several interesting districts, a good street cafe scene, a great riverside park, a busy cultural calendar and a thriving nightlife. Head to Noosa, a glorious coastal township where the Rainforest meets the Reef, and Fraser Island which is the largest sand island in the world with glorious rainforests and beaches. Your vacation will end in Melbourne, laid out in a large rectangle and boasting a lively and cosmopolitan pulse, sits on the northern banks of the Yarra River, about five kilometers from the bay. From cutting-edge architecture and blockbuster musicals to art exhibitions and popular festivals, Melbourne is a city where cultural pursuits are woven into the fabric of everyday life.

Detailed Itinerary

(Day 1): International Flight departing the USA. (Not Included)

After departing from Los Angeles, you will be provided with an evening meal, you can relax, have a drink, watch a movie and rest. You will be given Breakfast before landing in Sydney, Australia. (You lose one day crossing the International Date Line but don't worry you catch it up again on your return flight to the USA)

The Qantas Boeing 747-400 is equipped with the latest entertainment features of any Airline. The overnight flight to Australia can be a good opportunity for sleeping or to watch the latest movies after your evening meal.

(Day 2) - Shuttle Transfer from Sydney Airport to Accommodation

(Day 2) - Day Tour Sydney Opera House

On your vacation participate in an inspiring tour of the opera house in Sydney, Australia.

This one hour tour outlines the intricate and controversial history of the Sydney Opera House along with details of the unique design of this architectural masterpiece. You will visit a number of the six performance venues, including the magnificent wood paneled Concert Hall and the Opera Theatre as well as the new Utzon room. You will also visit the glass enclosed northern foyer areas which boast spectacular views of Sydney Harbour - a perfect photo opportunity.

Insider's Tip - Sydney Explorer Bus

The Sydney Explorer is a Hop On, Hop Off, sightseeing bus that takes in 27 key landmarks of the inner city (Opera House, Darling Harbour) and eastern beaches (Coogee and Bondi).

This unique city tour through Sydney departs from Circular Quay every 20 minutes starting at 8:40am, with the last round-trip service departing at 5:20pm. You can get on or off at any of the stops on the route. After traveling through some of Sydney's most exclusive residential areas, the tours take in some of Sydney's most spectacular coastlines and beaches. The bus travels every day along a 30km route and makes numerous stops. The bus trip takes 2 hours to complete the whole journey (with no stops). Buy your tickets onboard ($39 AUD for Adult ticket). Use your ticket stub to get amazing discounts at each stop location. Please Note: Sydney Opera House is one of the stops if you would like to do the Explorer on the same day as your Opera House tour.

(Day 3) - Day Tour - Sydney Harbour Bridgeclimb Adventure

On your vacation climb the famous Harbour Bridge in Sydney, Australia.

Achieve exhilaration and personal satisfaction as you climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge. For approximately two hours you, along with 11 other eager climbers and a climb guide, weave through catwalks, climb up ladders and then arrive at the most spectacular point of all - the upper arch climb. The steady incline to the upper arch leaves you free to focus your attention on your Sydney experience, with opportunities for 360 degree views of Sydney, including east to the ocean, west to the mountains and the harbour city surrounds. (Day 4) - Free Day to Explore Sydney

With Sydney at your fingertips, take the chance to explore the Darling Harbour area at your leisure, which is a modern collection of Shopping Malls, Parkland, Restaurants and Harbour Front activities.

The Monorail connection to the City Center provides quick transit, or walk to Circular Quay and catch a ferry to our wonderful harbour-side Taronga Park Zoo, or to the lovely tree-lined beach suburb of Manly. If visiting on a weekend then go to the Rocks Market and shop for local Arts, Crafts & unique Australian Souvenirs.

On your vacation, discover the spectacular Blue Mountains and see native wildlife Explore World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park, located outside of Sydney, Australia.

This rugged and beautiful region forms part of the Great Dividing Range, linking tropical north to temperate south, while dividing coastal cities from the vast Outback. Pass by Homebush Bay, site of the 2000 Olympics. Discover Leura village, a delightful blend of groomed gardens and quaint shops, enjoy free time to wander the streets of Leura. Next we stop at Echo Point and see the famous Three Sisters rock formation. Travel through Katoomba, heart of the resort region within the Blue Mountains National Park and discover the remarkable beauty of Blue Mountains National Park, enjoy an easy walk or Visit Echo Point Lookout, see the Three Sisters and hear the ancient Aboriginal legends of this impressive rock formation, hear traditional Aboriginal Dreamtime tales interpreting the creation of local landmarks. Enjoy 2 course hot lunch with tea, coffee or soft drink. Join the optional Blue Mountain rides - Scenic Railway, Cableway or Skyway (own expense). Insider's Tip - The Rocks

Located on the Harbour just a stroll away from the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge is the place where Sydney itself began, The Rocks!

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the Business District, this unique village features a centre with more than 70 shops, boutiques and galleries with everything from hand-made puppets, vintage clothing and accessories, antiques, art supplies, jewelry and some of Australia's finest arts and crafts.

If hunger takes over there are a myriad of places to eat, from some of the finest restaurants to quaint cafes and casual eateries with many offering stunning views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. If quenching a thirst is what you're after don't forget to stop off at one of the 13 Heritage pubs serving local wines and beers!

On Saturdays and Sundays, be sure to check out the market held at the northern end of George Street. Perfect for gifts and souvenir shopping, it has more than 150 stalls selling quality crafts, home wares, jewelry and Australian-designed goods, all under a unique sail-like canopy.

With the transport to The Rocks serviced by the Explorer and just a five minute walk from the Circle Quay is it easy to get here. The Sydney Visitors Centre on the corner of Argyle & Playfair Streets at The Rocks: open 9.30am - 5.30pm every day of the year (except Christmas Day and Good Friday). Opening hours may vary on some public holidays.

(Day 5 to 6) - 1 Nights Accommodation in Brisbane

Travel to your accommodation in Brisbane, Australia, where you will be staying whilst on vacation for 1 night.

Your 3 Star vacation accommodation is conveniently located in Brisbane's city centre. It is within walking distance to the Queen Street Mall shopping precinct, Treasury Casino, South Bank Parklands, Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Recently, the hotel went through a major refurbishment. Its rooms are equipped with free coffee/tea making facility, fridge, air conditioning, and hair dryer.

(Day 5) - Take the rest of the day to enjoy Brisbane!

Today you'll have the day free to Explore Brisbane. We suggest you use this opportunity to take in the sights of this beautiful city. Perhaps purchase a few souvenirs for family or friends back home.

Brisbane is a vibrant city with many activities and sights to enjoy all within walking distance from your hotel. Enjoy the shops and festivities at Southbank Parklands (World Expo 1988 was held here) and see Kodak Beach, a large man-made inland beach/pool surrounded by real beach sand, ferns and palm trees. Also experience a living rainforest complete with wildlife in the Southbank Wildlife Sanctuary. Wander the board-walks that follow the river through the city, walk past Kangaroo Point cliffs (watch people rock climb). Ride on a ferry (CityCat) and tour the city from the river (day or night). Cross the river to Brisbane Mall and shop till you drop, or enjoy a coffee in a sidewalk café and watch the world go by.

(Days 6 to 8): 2 Nights Accommodation in Noosa

Travel to your accommodation on the Sunshine Coast, Australia, where you will be staying whilst on vacation for 2 nights.

Your 4 Star accommodation resort is located in the French Quarter and is the perfect place to enjoy the best of Noosa. The rustic charm of your private and exclusive resort is less than thirty metres from Main Beach, right on the lively Hastings Street and just a stroll from Noosa National Park. Your air conditioned accommodation boasts a heated lagoon-style pool, restaurant and bar so you can relax and enjoy your stay in Noosa. Stroll on the boardwalk from Main Beach that runs the entire length and winds through Little Cove and into the park. Perhaps relax at the resort and enjoy the meandering pathways framed by beautiful gardens and shaded by palm trees or enjoy the sophisticated café society of Hastings Street.

(Day 7): Day Tour Adventure to Frasier Island

Travel by 4WD to Rainbow Beach and enjoy the majestic Glasshouse Mountains bordered by Pine Forests and Pineapple plantations before heading to the largest sand island in the world, Fraser Island.

On your way to join your 4WD Tour, you'll get to see the majestic Glasshouse Mountains which are a series of volcanic peaks that tower above and are bordered by Pine Forests, Pineapple plantations and open fields. You will meet your tour at Rainbow Beach, access point to Fraser Island, which gets its name from the 74 different sand shades that can be found here. Upon setting foot on Southern Queensland's most impressive (and famous) attraction, Fraser Island, you'll be awed by the array of coloured sands, unspoiled freshwater lakes and creeks, pristine white beaches, towering ancient rainforests and the endless stretch of 'Ocean Beach'. This World Heritage listed island is a precious part of Australia's natural and cultural heritage and protected for all to enjoy. Visit Central Station museum, Lake Mckenzie which is the islands most spectacular fresh water lake, or Lake Birrabeen. Then head to a great place to explore the island at Eurong Resort where you will stop for lunch. Be sure to keep an eye out for one of the controversial island Dingos - the purest specimens of this native Australian dog.

Today you'll have the day free to Explore Melbourne City's vast shopping centres, markets and boutiques, maybe do some souvenir shopping.

Melbourne is a Multicultural City boasting many boutique cafes, wineries and extensive shopping. You'll also find it very easy to get around on the trains and trams, especially within the inners of Melbourne.

Optional Day Tour (Not Included) - Great Ocean Road

Spend today on a tour of the most beautiful section of Victoria's south coast, an adventure along the Great Ocean Road.

Enjoy one of the world's greatest coastal drives - it's severity and striking contrasts will remain etched in your memory forever. Enjoy views of Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay from the West Gate Bridge, Stroll along the pristine sandy beaches and wander through the sleepy seaside holiday towns. Discover the deep lush fern gullies and eucalypt trees that roll down to the sheer cliffs that plunge dramatically into the ocean. View majestic monoliths dramatically protruding from the sea including the Twelve Apostles which are the world's largest coastal limestone towers - an awesome spectacle. Marvel at Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge - millions of years of erosion have sculpted these incredible landmarks. After the day tour return to your Melbourne hotel (late evening arrival).

Ride the Puffing Billy Steam Train through lush forests before sampling traditional Australian billy tea and lamington cakes. In the Yarra Valley enjoy wine tasting and the company of local winemakers at Fergusson's Winery. After lunch (including lunch, vegetarian available) continue on to visit two more vineyards, Domaine Chandon and Rockford's Eyton for further wine-tastings and a winery tour.

Located within iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is Australia's greatest showcase of sports at the world-class National Sports Museum which honours Australian Football, cricket, soccer, Olympic Games and more! Immerse yourself in this spiritual home of sports contained within a new, modern museum on two levels of the MCG's new Olympic Stand. See over 2500 of the finest sports-related artifacts from Australia's rich sporting history along with innovative interactive technology. The eight permanent exhibitions will offer insight into all levels of achievement, values, fair play and the pursuit of excellence of Australian sportsmen and women. Insider's Tip - Queen Victoria Market

The Queen Victoria Market is an historic Melbourne landmark and a Melbourne institution dating back to more than 120 years ago.

Queen Victoria Market hasn’t been just a market. At different times in the past it has been a cemetery, a livestock market and a place to sell fruit and veggies (vegetables) wholesale. It is said to be the southern hemisphere’s largest open-air market offering a variety of fresh farm produce and, on Sundays, a wider range of merchant items which turn the market into a modern Arabian Nights bazaar. This is the place to buy your souvenirs.

Aside from the variety of wares offered at the Queen Victoria Market, buskers and street entertainment are a market feature, particularly on Sundays when Queen St is closed and becomes a place of cafes, carnival rides and other activities. And there's always the sound of spruikers cajoling visitors into buying their goods, and you can haggle for the best prices you're able to get.

The Queen Victoria Market trading hours are 6am to 2pm on Tuesday and Thursday; 6am to 6pm (with the general merchandise section closing at 4pm) on Friday; 6am to 3pm on Saturday; and 9am to 4pm on Sunday. The market is closed on Monday and Wednesday, and on Good Friday, Anzac Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. (Please double check times before you go.)

Insider's Tip - Federation Square

Mingle with visitors and locals alike at the centre of the city know as Melbourne's meeting place, Federation Square! Showcasing a creative mix of attractions it boasts 15 restaurants, cafes and bars and over 2000 events annually making this a must see in Melbourne!

Winner of the 2006 and 2007 Victorian Tourism Awards, Federation Square embraces some of the world's most stunning architecture with a wide array of attractions. Situated on the traditional lands of the Kulin Nation the Square supports the nation's contemporary expression and values the heritage and traditions of the indigenous people of this area. Be sure to check out the Atrium, a major challenge made of glass, steel and zinc. Flanked by Zinc, this centre provides access to The Square which features the paved sandstone cobbles from Western Australia and spectacular views of the City, Southbank and the Yarra River. Don't forget to make a stop off at the Wharf which offers up the Riverland Bar and Cafe, Hire-A-Bike, Ferry Boat Drop off and Pick Up Service.

If you just happen to be in Melbourne on a Thursday night be sure to take advantage of the late night program! Open until 9pm, the Ian Potter Centre is the world's first major gallery dedicated exclusively to Australian art which showcases a spectacular array of over 20 galleries housed within this landmark architectural complex. Also open until 9pm, don't miss the Australian Centre for the Moving Image which is the first centre of its kind in the world with its dedication to the moving image in all its forms - from early cinema to the latest digital media - it certainly offers a unique experience for visitors from around the globe.

Insider's Tip - City Circle Tour of Melbourne

The Melbourne City Circle Tram travels a rectangular route along Flinders, Spring, LaTrobe and Spencer Streets right around the Melbourne city centre.

Not only is travel completely free on the City Circle Tram but you get a running commentary on the places of interest along its route. You can get off the tram at any of its stops, so you can visit particular attractions at close hand, and catch the next one.

Trams run in both directions every 12 minutes, seven days a week between 10am and 6pm (except Christmas Day and Good Friday), and during daylight-saving extended hours, 10am to 9pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
