(Day 1) - International Flight, Los Angeles to Sydney

Travel to Australia on your vacation. After departing from Los Angeles you will be provided with an evening meal. You can relax, have a drink, watch a movie, review your itinerary or just rest. You will be given Breakfast before landing in Sydney, Australia. (You lose one day crossing the International Date Line but don’t worry you catch it up again on your return flight to the USA)

The Qantas Boeing 747-400 is equipped with the latest entertainment features of any Airline. The overnight flight to Australia can be a good opportunity for sleeping or to watch the latest movies after your evening meal.

Melbourne is a Multicultural City boasting many boutique cafes, wineries and extensive shopping. You’ll also find it very easy to get around on the trains and trams, especially within the inners of Melbourne.

Optional Day Tour (Not Included) - Puffing Billy & Wineries Tour

This morning you are going to enjoy some good old fashioned fun and the most beautiful rainforest in Victoria. You will then be spoiled with some great Aussie food and wine for lunch and go on to taste wines from some of Victoria’s leading wineries. We’ll get your day started with a journey through Melbourne’s eastern suburbs and views of the Dandenong Ranges in the distance.

The Dandenong Ranges, also known as the Dandenongs, are beautiful mountain ranges just 35kms east of Melbourne. At their peak, they rise to more than 630 metres and are wrapped in lush rainforests of Mountain Ash trees (the tallest flowering plant in the world), waterfalls, rolling hills and steep valleys.

Right in the heart of the Dandenongs is Grant’s Reserve – a gorgeous spot to take a break. On arrival you will be greeted by the surrounding mountain hue and crisp clear air. While here you will enjoy a traditional Aussie billy tea with vegemite, crackers & lamingtons.

The Dandenongs is a haven for bird life and while at Grant’s Reserve you can handfeed some of the most striking Australian birds such as the colourful Crimson Rosella, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and Pink-chested Galah. You will also be entertained by the wonderful bird song that fills the valley.

Next you head to Belgrave, home of the famous Puffing Billy Steam Train, where you are in for some fun! This century-old steam train is maintained in its original glory and runs to this day on its own mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook. Here you’ll go back in time as you get on board for a 30 minute ride through the heart of the rainforest. You’ll head through the gorgeous Sherbrooke Forest and ride over the old Trestle Bridge. Just before Menzies Creek you can see stunning views of Port Phillip Bay before heading through Paradise Valley and on to the townships of Emerald and Gembrook. You’re going to love it!

The scenery en route to the Yarra Valley is just spectacular with the Great Dividing Range as the backdrop. When you arrive in Victoria’s premium wine growing region, you’ll visit Fergusson Winery and another two leading wineries for wine tasting, appreciation and education. Of the many wineries in the area, you may visit estates such as Rochford Wines, Dominique Portet, or Domaine Chandon. Each has earned an international reputation for excellence and offer cellar-door tastings of their awardwinning selections of Australian wine.

Optional Day Tour (Not Included) - Phillip Island

Phillip Island is home to an astounding array of wildlife, including Australia’s largest fur seal colony, the little penguins and cuddly koalas. Enjoy getting close to koalas and kangaroos before joining the little penguins at dusk, as they emerge from the surf and waddle to their burrows.

Leave Melbourne early afternoon and visit Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park. See animals in their natural habitat. Hand feed kangaroos and wallabies and learn about the conservation work of this important sanctuary. This Eco-certified sanctuary showcases the famous and endangered faces of Australian wildlife, including southern bettong, eastern quolls and rare fluffy gliders. Get close to these beautiful animals with the opportunity to hand feed them, watch and be captivated like never before!

From here travel to Phillip Island and stop in at the famous Chocolate Factory (tour included). Visit the Nobbies and Seal Rocks, stroll along the boardwalk and enjoy the spectacular views along Phillip Island’s rugged south coast. Next stop is Summerland Beach, home to Victoria’s largest colony of little penguins for the nightly Penguin Parade. Watch as hundreds of little penguins make their way across the beach and return to their sand dune burrows.

Discover Australia as you travel by rental car for eight days.

As part of your vacation self-drive Australia and explore our stunning landscapes, coastlines, regional towns and wildlife. Stop and meet the locals, maybe enjoy a counter meal at a local Aussie pub, or relax on the beach while sampling some takeaway fish & chips from the local deli or servo. During one of your rest stops try to spot a tasmanian devil, wombat, kangaroo, emu or even a Koala in the wild.

Please bring a valid American drivers license with you and be aware that the Australians drives on the left hand side of the road.

(Days 10 to 14) - 3 Nights on the Great Ocean Road

Great Ocean Road (Victoria) through to Victor Harbour (South Australia): Self Drive Tour

DAY 1: GREAT OCEAN ROAD SELF DRIVE TOUR
Today collect your hire car and start your self drive tour of the Great Ocean Road. Pass through Geelong and maybe stop at Torquay for refreshments. Enjoy views of sweeping beaches, sleepy coastal resorts and spectacular cliffsides as you wind along the coastline road. Stop at Apollo Bay for your overnight accommodation with the afternoon at leisure.

Insider’s Tip: Geelong & Great Ocean Road Information Centre – There are 12 Accreditied Visitor Information Centres along Great Ocean Road. The Geelong Centre (on the outskirts of town on Princess Highway) is a great place to stop for everything you need for the GOR region. Stop by to pick up maps, vistors’ guides, magazines or tips from the knowledgeable locals. (All visitor information centres are open 7 days a week from 9am-5pm)

DAY 2: THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD.
Continue along the road to Otway National Park, an abundance of ferns and mosses dwarfed by giant gum trees. Continue towards Port Campbell National Park. View the famous Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard. Stop in Port Campbell for refreshments and continue to the remnants of London Bridge. Continue on to Portland and stay overnight in Mount Gambier (South Australia). View Mt Gambier’s Blue Lake, famous for its vivid blue colour during summer months.

DAY 3: THE RIVERLAND
From Mt Gambier continue onto Tailem Bend and see Old Tailem Town a re-creation of a pioneer village with many old buildings. Continue to Strathalbyn and onto Victor Harbor a quaint seaside town where we recommend you stay overnight.

(Days 10 to 11) - 1 Night Accommodation in Apollo Bay

Travel to your vacation accommodation where you will stay for one night whilst in Apollo Bay.

Stay in the picturesque green foothills of the Otway Ranges – Apollo Bay. Visit gorgeous valleys just a few kilometres out of town full of rainforests, waterfalls, streams and fireflies or take a spectacular bush walk. Participate in every water sport imaginable from surfing to fishing to diving or just lounging on the beach. Nearby Cape Otway has nature walks through petrified forests and walks to mighty water falls or you can visit some of the highest ocean cliffs in Victoria on your way to the Cape Otway lighthouse, one of the most significant lighthouses in Australia (Open daily).

(Days 11 to 12) - 1 Night Accommodation in Mount Gambier

Travel to your vacation accommodation where you will stay 1 night whilst in Mt. Gambier.

Your vacation accommodation in Mt. Gambier is located on the slopes of an extinct volcano, covered with craters. One of the craters is home to a lake for water skiing, picnicking and wildlife walks. If you are a diver, take the opportunity to dive Engelbrecht Cave – one of the many caves beneath the streets of Mt. Gambier but the only one accessible by divers. Take the time to visit beautiful Blue Lake, a lake that changes colour each year. Or stop by Umpherston Sinkhole. Once a cave formed by limestone, this sinkhole was created when the top of the chamber collapsed; creating an environment for a sunken garden. If you are up for it, walk to the Centenary Tower; opened in 1904 to commemorate the first sighting of Mt. Gambier in 1800. You will have magnificent views of the Crater Lakes, the city and a coastal outlook (Small Entrance Fee Applies).

(Days 12 to 13) - 1 Night Accommodation in Victor Harbour

Situated on the Fleurieu Peninsula, Victor Harbour offers a bit of it all. From here you can experience coastal wildlife, sea views, relaxing strolls and adventure. When entering Victor Harbour be sure to look for the Bluff summit. The Bluff summit was created when granite formed by magma squeezed up from the deep in the continental crust about 500 million years ago. (The views from the summit are amazing but there is a 500m climb requiring a moderate level of fitness.) Try to find the time for a ride on the Clydesdale horse tram. This tram crosses a 600m wooden causeway to Granite Island, home to a colony of little penguins and the 2.9km Kaiki Trail. On your crossing be sure to look for schools of fish swimming around & under the causeway and for dolphins, seals and whales on the horizon. Return tickets on the tram are $7.00 per adult AUD (subject to change).

(Days 13 to 14) - 2 Days/1 Night on Kangaroo Island (Pick Up & Drop Off in Victor Harbour)

Kangaroo Island Coast to Coast – Stay overnight on KI and discover some of the wildlife that is rarely seen in daylight. On the second day take a Sealink coach tour to experience the unspoiled and wild beauty of KI’s Flinders Chase National Park.

Day 1 Adelaide to Kangaroo Island
Join our scenic coach drive through the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis where you’ll board the Sealink ferry for your 45 minute cruise to Kangaroo Island (KI). Our first visit is Clifford’s Honey Farm. After lunch it’s on to Parndana Wildlife Park, then Seal Bay for a beach walk among a breeding colony of Australian sea-lions. Then it’s on to Kingscote to see the daily pelican feeding followed by a leisurely drive to your chosen accommodation.

Day 2 Kangaroo Island to Adelaide
After collecting you from your chosen accommodation we travel to the Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery, a marvelous example of Australian bush ingenuity. We travel on to Kelly Hill Caves where a National Parks Guide will escort you deep into this fascinating cave system. After lunch we drive a short distance to Flinders Chase National Park. Walk along boardwalks to the spectacular Remarkable Rocks and Admiral’s Arch before your transfer to the ferry terminal for your return journey to Adelaide.

Take a visit to Port Douglas’ first church, Saint Mary’s by the Sea and see fantastic views of the Coral Sea and distant mountains. Don’t forget to soak up the sun at Four Mile Beach or even take in a game of golf.

What ever your tastes happen to be, Port Douglas is a great place to relax and simply enjoy the many great features of this town.

Situated on eight acres of land, the park recreates four very unique environments that allow you to see various and numerous species through meandering boardwalks. Enter through the Savannah, this new habitat offers an opportunity to wander amongst the beautifully rich coloured birds of northern Australian open woodland. Check out the Wetlands where you can view wading birds as they forage for fish beneath the boardwalks, along with marsupials, fruit bats and other bird species. Come hungry and have the original “Breakfast with the Birds” (extra cost) which will tempt you with Hot/Cold Buffet, juices, exotic tropical fruit selection and bottomless tea and coffee. Watch the clock and make sure to be on time for the Koala Photos (extra cost). Begin the day by visiting the Wildlife Habitat. See the endangered cassowary, along with other wildlife, as well as the opportunity to hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies. Have your picture taken with a koala, snake, or crocodile (extra cost). Morning Tea included.

Arrive at Cape Tribulation and enjoy lunch before embarking on a fantastic adventure Jungle Surfing. Set in the pristine Daintree rainforest at Cape Tribulation, Jungle Surfing takes you on a unique rainforest tour where your feet don’t touch the ground. Fly through the trees on flying fox ziplines, stopping at tree platforms to take in spectacular bird’s eye views over the treetops. Highly trained abseiling masters and scientist guides will make sure your adventure is exciting, educational, and safe.

This guided tour showcases the sights of Brisbane ncluding the historic Tower Mill Observatory. Visit Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, the world’s first and largest koala sanctuary to cuddle a koala.

Experience Brisbane’s past by touring historic buildings including the oldest Mill and Observatory. Travel through the sub tropic suburbs and observe the classic architecture of these traditional “tin and timber” homes which sit on stilts before you head through to trendy Paddington and past Lang Park Stadium. Also have a visit to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary (established in 1927) which is the world’s first and largest koala sanctuary. It is one of the best places to visit Australian native animals in a natural Aussie bush country setting. Here you can hug one of 130 cute koalas anytime of the day (cuddling Koala’s is only legal in the state of Queensland) and get a photo (own expense). Enjoy the shops and festivities at Southbank Parklands (World Expo 1988 was held here) and see Kodak Beach, a large man-made inland beach/pool surrounded by real beach sand, ferns and palm trees. Also experience a living rainforest complete with wildlife in the Southbank Wildlife Sanctuary. Wander the board-walks that follow the river through the city, walk past Kangaroo Point cliffs (watch people rock climb). Ride on a ferry (CityCat) and tour the city from the river (day or night). Cross the river to Brisbane Mall and shop till you drop, or enjoy a coffee in a sidewalk café and watch the world go by.

Get a ticket on the City Cat Ferry – it’s good for all day & lets you ride bus, train and ferry.

Include Mount Cootha as part of the zones you will cross – you can get off at a ferry stop and take a bus from there to Mount Cootha and take in some great city views. Be sure to do this earlier in the day since the buses stop running out to Mount Cootha later in the day.

Brisbane has a great public transportation system in place and free tours of both the Parliament House and the Botanical Gardens.
