With the cleanest air in the world, it’s no wonder why Tasmania is home to the most pristine beaches, the most unique wildlife, and the freshest ingredients for world-class wines, whiskey, and seafood.
On an island merely 1/10 the size of Texas, you can experience more in Tasmania than you have in your last five vacations combined. And yet most Australians have never made the quick hop to this gem of an island state.
It’s only a testament to Tasmania’s flourishing natural beauty and impeccable cuisine.
With our Tasmania Wine Trails & Australian Icons vacation package, you’ll see more of Australia than Australian locals have in their lifetime.
And the world’s most coveted food and wine will be right at your fingertips.
Fly into Melbourne, Australia’s cosmopolitan city. As the undisputed cool kid, Melbourne is where culture flourishes. Colorful street art lines the laneways within the heart of the city, where a turn at every corner reveals a bright café, secret bar or hidden restaurant. A trendsetter in art and style, simply walking through the city revitalizes your sense of creativity.
After your night in Melbourne, you’ll hop on over to Australia’s island state of Tasmania. Pristine wilderness, forested mountains and gorgeous coasts that yield some of the world’s freshest seafood – this is Tasmania. Its haunting convict history adds an unearthly allure to its natural beauty, the perfect setting to get closer to nature.
You’ll arrive in Launceston, Tasmania’s second largest city. A heritage gem set within sumptuous hills, ancient forests and scenic waterways, Launceston blends natural splendor with historic charm. With the Tamar Valley wine region only moments away, Launceston’s love of exquisite food and wine knows no bounds.
Stay 2 nights in Launceston at a 5-star luxury accommodation set on the banks of the Tamar River. Forged out of a heritage building dating back to the 1960’s, your accommodation boasts spacious rooms set in repurposed grain silos, 24-hour reception, an onsite restaurant with paddock-to-plate menus, and exceptional wine and cocktail lists.
By now you’re definitely ready to wind down, and the best way to settle into wine country is with a glass.
Set your luggage down at your accommodation and whisk away on a tour of Josef Chromy Wines, one of Tasmania’s premium wineries. Learn about the vineyard’s grapes, hear the inspiring story of founder Josef Chromy and sample wines straight from the barrel. If you’re feeling hungry, you’ll get a taste of Tasmania’s succulent produce with a 2-course lunch paired with wines.
As you sip on Josef Chromy’s award-winning Sparklings and Pinot Noirs, know that your Tasmanian wine experience is only just beginning.
The next day you’ll see how Tasmania’s pristine air and clean waterways produces amazing produce, wines and culinary delights on a tour of Tamar Valley. This half-day wine tour reveals firsthand why Tasmania has been named as one of the World’s Top 10 Wine Destinations by Wine Enthusiast magazine.
- Taste sparkling wines considered only second to Champagne in France.
- Visit up to four boutique vineyards showcasing the region’s exceptional Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
- Enjoy a delicious local produce tasting featuring rich Tasmanian cheeses, delectable raspberries, hazelnuts and hot smoked salmon.
After your last night in Launceston, your Tasmania self-drive adventure begins. The freedom to explore Tasmania’s wine trails and regional gems is a road less traveled, but you’re not looking for a regular vacation. You’re setting out on an unforgettable journey.
From Launceston head south to Hobart, exploring the Southern Wine Trail of the Coral River Valley. This scenic drive winds through boutique wineries, historic landmarks and wildlife parks.
- Visit the Ross Female Factory, Australia’s most archaeologically intact female convict site erected in 1833.
- Stop in for a vineyard lunch at award-winning Pooley Wines, set in a gorgeous sandstone cellar door dating back to the 1830’s.
- Taste wines from boutique, family-owned wineries, such as Puddleduck Vineyard and Riverdale Estate.
- Meet Tasmanian devils and hand-feed kangaroos at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary.
Once you see the snowy peaks of kunanyi/Mount Wellington, you’ll know you’ve arrived at Hobart.
Hobart is Tasmania’s harbor capital, a serene city of warm sandstone, bright spinnakers on the water and coffee under the umbrellas of waterfront cafes. It’s Australia’s second oldest city, reflected in its 19th century architecture and Colonial-style cottages.
Here you’ll stay 3 nights at an award winning apartment style hotel showcasing a heritage-listed façade. Your first day in Hobart is free, but you’ll likely not want to spend much time in your hotel. Exquisite parks, historic buildings, famous markets and a burgeoning music and arts scene are rapidly shaping Hobart into a coveted international destination.
Hobart is also home to one of the world’s most controversial museums – Museum of Old and New Art (Mona). At the forefront of the international contemporary art world, Mona also leads the helm of Hobart’s art, food and wine scene. On your last day in Hobart, you’ll visit Mona for a unique experience at Moorilla Estate, the onsite winery and vineyard.
- Explore the museum’s vast collection, ranging from the eccentric to macabre abstract.
- Enjoy a gourmet lunch at one of Mona’s posh restaurants with a glass of Moorilla wine.
- Take a tour of the Moorilla winery and enjoy a wine tasting.
After 5 days in Tasmania sampling its rugged wilderness, scenic wine country and delectable food, you’ll jet off back to mainland Australia.
Arrive in Cairns, in Australia’s tropical Far North Queensland. As the gateway city to the Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest, you’re in the best position to explore some of the world’s most treasured natural wonders. Enjoy the laid-back vibes and tropical lifestyle of Cairns for 3 nights in a 4.5 star resort.
Your days are free to venture into Cairns. Join an optional snorkeling cruise to the reef and swim among sea turtles, bright corals and tropical fish. Or head to Daintree Rainforest, part of the oldest rainforest system in the world, and join a guided tour revealing the Aboriginal stories and history behind this tropical environment.

Amazing trip to Australia !!!!!!
Very soon will be back with our son Richard.
We loved our time in Australia! The diversity between Melbourne, Cairns, and Sydney was great. We did several tours including the Phillip Island Penguins, the snorkeling/diving in Cairns (would like to do that one about 10 more times!), the Kuranda Rainforeststation, and the Hop on/Hop off tour in Sydney. We also did some extra exploring at those places and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We highly recommend time in Australia - LOTS of time vs. just the 11 days we spent there! We just may(...)
I wasn't totally convinced that this would work out. But, it did. Darin Hendry did a fabulous job of making our trip perfect. I was worried- I didn't have to- he's a 5 star pro. We loved it all.
