Sovereign Hill & Historic Ballarat [MEL40]
Day Tour, Sovereign Hill & Historic Ballarat. Melbourne, Australia.

Get up close to koalas and kangaroos at Ballarat Wildlife Park, then step back in time as you explore Australia’s best outdoor museum – Sovereign Hill!

Begin your day with a guided tour of the Ballarat Wildlife Park, located in a native bushland setting. You will be greeted by “Patrick the Wombat” and see Tasmanian Devils and free-roaming emus!

If you want to get up close to your favorite animals, take up the opportunity to touch and photograph a cuddly koala or hand-feed the kangaroos.

See an amazing crocodile along with an extensive collection of over 200 other reptiles including snakes, goannas and giant lizards! Stroll through the craft and souvenir shops and enjoy a meal in the delightful café (own expense).

Afterwards, visit Sovereign Hill for an exciting gold rush experience! The past is very much present in towns like Ballarat whose early wealth and proud history is due to the mighty gold discovery of the mid-1850s.

The glorious legacy that gold bestowed on this colonial town is still evident in the restored buildings and atmosphere of proud Ballarat. Sovereign Hill in Ballarat is a perfectly re-created example of Gold Rush life during Victoria’s Golden era.

Explore the daily ritual of this Gold Rush town and stroll the main street to visit with goldsmiths, crafts people, traders, soldiers and the like. Find your own fortune whilst panning for gold in the stream, go “underground” to the fascinating Gold mine and museum or ride the stage-coach through the village.

Exhibits and displays unfold before you as you stroll through this bustling pioneer township. Have a chat with the gentle town folk and be captivated by the friendly outlook of their 1850s daily life. Hear the amazing story of the Eureka Stockade, or have the opportunity to undertake the Red Hill Mine Tour.

You can also visit a number of operational workshops and witness demonstrations of blacksmithing, wheel wrighting, gold pouring, candle making and much more.
